From Poverty to Self-Sufficiency
What was the most suprising thing what the participants of the two two-day training course From Poverty to Self-Sufficiency have learned?
“That poverty in Roma settlements in Slovakia is the same as poverty anywhere in the world.“
“I did not know that for the poor, relationships with other people in their community are so important and essential.“
I realized that we, professionals, have to better understand how the hidden rules of poverty function in ghetto communities where our clients live. I will also try to teach my clients to better understand the hidden rules of the middle class.
Forty employees of the Offices of Labour, Social Affairs and Family from Kežmarok, who participated in September this year at two 2-day training courses entitled From Poverty to Self-Sufficiency, appreciated what they learned, including new information and knowledge about generational poverty.
The training courses have been prepared by professional lecturers from ETP Slovakia – Center for Sustainable Development as a part of the international project Changing Discourse, Changing Practice – The Roma as Human Resources, financially supported by the European Union through the Danube Transnational Program.
